  • émile Durkheim was a French sociologist who taught at the University of Bourdeaux and successively at the Paris Sorbonne. His main works include De la Division du Travail Social (The Division of Labor in Society, 1893), Les Règles de la Méthode Sociologique (Rules of Sociological Method, 1895), Le Suicide: Etude de Sociologie (Suicide: A Study in Sociology, 1897), and Les Formes Elementaires de la Vie Religieuse (The Elementary Forms of Religious Life, 1912).
