Definition
- Death and dying emerged as a topic of discourse in the United States with the 1969 publication of a book by Swiss-born Elisabeth Kübler-Ross (1926–1997), On Death and Dying. Her articulation of five phases of dying encouraged both the dying and those who care for them to celebrate life. [Source: Encyclopedia of Community: From the Village to the Virtual World; Death]
