- Metal theft is the theft of items for the value of their constituent metals. Common targets include copper wires, cable, and plumbing; air conditioners and parts for the copper content; catalytic converters from cars for their platinum, rhodium, and palladium; aluminum siding and gutters; electrical transformers, beer kegs, manhole covers, highway guardrails, and more.
