Concept information

Preferred term

fathers in prison

Definition

  • Historically, much more attention has been paid to incarcerated mothers than to fathers. This is partly caused by concern about pregnant women in prison and also because of widespread beliefs that the mother-child bond is stronger than that between the father and child.
