collaborative research

Definition

  • Collaborative research is research “with” rather than research “on.” It is research that arises out of the expressed needs, interests, and questions of the stake-holders who are most invested in the research and its findings, and it is research conducted in relationship with them. Collaborative research reflects a move in the social sciences away from a hierarchical understanding of research as informing practice to an understanding of the reciprocal and interdependent nature of research and practice.
