- Confucianism is a far-reaching and multifaceted philosophy that has had a long-lasting influence on Chinese higher education. After being institutionalized in the early 2nd century BCE, Confucianism dominated the development of Chinese higher education, defining its mission and curriculum and other fundamental characteristics such as diversity.
