competitive advantage

Definition

  • Competitive advantage is the factor or series of factors that allows one organization to outperform competitors relative to the primary measure of success in its market (profit, patient satisfaction, market share, and so on). For this reason, competitive advantage is, in a sense, the Holy Grail of strategy: It is the thing organizations seek but rarely find.
