  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a widespread functional disorder of the lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract. A sizable proportion of IBS patients have noticeable psychological distress as measured by standardized psychological tests and as shown by a high occurrence of comorbid psychiatric disorders.
