- AMERICAN RADIOLOGIST DAVID E. Kuhl was the joint winner, with Michael E. Phelps, of the Charles F. Kettering Prize of the General Motors Cancer Foundation in 2001 for “research in the development of positron emission tomography (P.E.T.) scanning and the use of this technology to study normal and abnormal cellular function.” David Edmund Kuhl was born October 27, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, and educated at Temple University (A.B., 1951) and the University of Pennsylvania (M.D., 1955).
