  • Prison music includes songs written and/or sung by the incarcerated and songs written by them after release that are thematically influenced by their experiences of imprisonment. Although prison music is most often recognized by the content of the songs, some of it has a distinctive structure that can be traced to the cultural heritage of the convict musician.
