- CANCER RESEARCH AND care have been practiced at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madi-son) since the 1940s. The UW Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center (UWCCC) is recognized as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute (NCI); in fact, it is the only such center in the state of Wisconsin.
