- Dirigisme is an economic term used to describe a state-directed economy in which economic planning and other kinds of government intervention work to regulate and coordinate the production and allocation of resources. Dirigisme comes from the French word diriger (to direct), and economies that operate under such conditions are referred to as dirigiste. [Source: The Encyclopedia of Political Science; Dirigisme]
