- Vandana Shiva is a feminist environmentalist and philosopher of science whose work combines scientific and economic research with the principles of grassroots activism and social justice movements to resolve environmental problems at the local and global levels. Born November 5, 1952, in Dehradun, India, to a farmer mother with a love for nature and a forest conservationist father, Shiva demonstrated an early concern for environmental activism and social justice.
