parent training

Definition

  • Parent training (PT) is an umbrella term for several related behavioral interventions designed to help parents address child noncompliance and disruptive behaviors. Unlike many therapeutic interventions for children, in which a therapist and a child work to resolve issues, in PT, parents are taught to be the primary “therapists” who implement changes in their own behavior or in the environment to influence changes in the child's behavior.
