Rome
Definition
- Rome is famous for being the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, a world city of pilgrimage and religious tourism. The primacy of the pope and the centrality of Rome are the product of a long history of pilgrimages, principally those of the “Holy Years.” Moreover, the case of the first Global Jubilee, held in the year 2000, shows what kinds of challenges the Roman Catholic Church is facing today.Rome has also a history of pluralism, which is often overlooked.
