gender and politics

Definition

  • The study of gender and politics in political science rests on an initial body of research that established women as a politically relevant group for political scientific analysis and sex as a political variable. A small number of early influential studies of women and politics can be identified, the best known of which is Maurice Duverger's The Political Role of Women (1955), a work commissioned in part in response to transnational feminist demands for empirical research on women's political and economic status.
