  • THE EUROPEAN SOCIETY for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO), founded in Milan, Italy in 1980, is primarily a membership organization of people working in oncology, radiotherapy, and other related fields. It has six principal objectives: to foster radiation oncology; to develop and promote standards for radiation oncology, radiophysics, radiation technology, and radiobiology in Europe; to establish radiation oncology as a clinical specialty integrated with other forms of cancer treatment; to promote international exchange of scientific information in the fields of radiotherapy, oncology, radiophysics, and radiobiology; to establish standards for education and practice in radiation oncology and related professions; and to establish relationships with other national, international, and regional bodies concerned with radiation oncology.
