- Because children and adolescents spend a significant amount of time watching television, the effects of watching TV on students' reading skills, vocabulary, creativity, spatial ability, and IQ scores are of concern to parents, educators, researchers, and policymakers. Tannis MacBeth and colleagues took advantage of a natural experiment in three Canadian towns to do a before-and-after study of the effects of television on a variety of cognitive skills.
