- Andrew Carnegie once said “Do not look for approval except for the consciousness of doing your best.” Carnegie's story personifies the capitalist ideal of the individual rising above the masses to profit from their perceived deficiencies. Often regarded as one of the richest men in history, Andrew Carnegie was born on November 25, 1835, in Scotland, Carnegie's father owned and operated a handloom business.
