  • RELATIVE INCOME MEASURES of poverty typically identify the poor as being below a specific income threshold, such as 50 or 60 percent of the median income, for the country in which they live. The median income is the income figure that divides a society's income distribution into equal parts such that half of the population have incomes above the median and the other half have incomes below.
