- Chlorinated hydrocarbons (CHCs) are a group of organic molecules that consist of chlorine, carbon, and hydrogen atoms. While some CHCs occur naturally, many of these compounds are synthesized for industrial purposes or are formed as disinfection by-products (DBPs).
