Definición
- Qualitative research, a form of social inquiry, has been used by social scientists to develop a rich understanding of the way people make sense of the world in which they live, as well as the varied practices they employ while doing so. For well over a century, anthropologists and sociologists have employed qualitative methodologies in their work, most often naming their approach “fieldwork.” In the field of education, qualitative approaches to research have been used to examine a broad range of issues in P-16 (pre-kindergarten through postsecondary education) contexts, including the uses of zero tolerance policies in schools, narratives of youth with learning disabilities, the analysis of popular texts about prom, and how the practices and discourses of schools function to construct black boys as criminals.
