Definición

  • William Murray, the first Earl of Mansfield (1705–1793), held positions of barrister, member of Parliament, solicitor general, attorney general, Chancellor of the exchequer, lord speaker, and lord chief justice of the King's Bench. The Fourth Amendment requirements that law enforcement officers obtain judicial warrants naming specific individuals before conducting searches or making arrests and that evidence seized in an illegal search be excluded from trial can be traced to the writings of Lord Mansfield.
