disposable workers

Definición

  • Among the many upheavals of the transition from manufacturing orientation to an information orientation of developed economies over the past several decades has been a dramatic and fundamental transformation of the employment relationship. The construct of the disposable worker has gained popularity in both popular and academic circles in explaining the role of the worker in this new relationship, capturing the sense in which the bond between employee and employer has become increasingly short term as employers have extended the concept of just-in-time manufacturing to the employment relationship, resulting in both an increase in temporary and contingent labor and an overall decline in job tenure and long-term employment.
