Free Radio movement

Definición

  • In a climate of intense cultural, social, and political change, when even the public broadcaster, Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI), was breaking away from the decades-long control of the Christian Democratic Party, the free radio, or Libertà d'antenna (Antenna Freedom) movement in Italy was the expression of the desire for more freedom of communication coming from expanding sectors of civil society. The free radio movement had deep roots in the country's history of rebellious, antigovernment, and antiestablishment communication: from partisan radio stations during the antifascist resistance period, to pirate stations, to local and community radio.
