Definición
- The Maghreb refers to the North African countries of Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco, which formed the Maghreb Empire from the Arabization of these lands in the tenth century CE. The majority of people in the region share a common Arab identity, and Berbers represent the most significant non-Arab population. In the 1500s, Algeria was integrated into the Ottoman Empire, during which time its modern borders were established, and it remained nominally a part of the empire until its 1830 colonization by France.
