  • Born in the American Revolution, tempered in World War I, and raised to the status of national icon in World War II, the U.S. Marine Corps is an air–ground expeditionary forcedesigned to seize advanced air and naval bases when necessa and to capture ports and beaches as the prelude for extended land campaigns by American air forces and armies.
