European relative-income standard of poverty

Definición

  • THERE ARE TWO BASIC methods by which poverty lines are set in countries: the food or consumption basket standard, which is used by the United States and many developing nations, and the relative-income standard, which is used by the European Union, among other countries and organizations. Under the standard food basket variant, or consumption basket variant, the poverty line is defined based on the amount of income required to purchase certain basic needs.
