- Established in 1912 and headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is the largest and most influential professional organization representing the interests of America's podiatrists. Most of the 15,000 podiatrists in the United States are members of the association, and within the APMA's umbrella of organizations are component societies representing the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and a Federal Services jurisdiction.
