- CHINESE-BORN CANADIAN SCIENTIST Victor Ling was the winner of the Charles F. Kettering Prize of the General Motors Cancer Foundation in 1991 for “the elucidation of the biochemical basis of multi-drug resistance in tumor cells.” In the same year he also received the Steiner Award. His work has helped with the understanding of the existence and mechanisms of drug-resistant chemotherapy, which has provided help for patients suffering from leukemia, breast and ovarian cancers, and cystic fibrosis.
