public opinion on punishment

Definición

  • The relationship between public opinion and punishment in the United States has recently come to the forefront of criminological and criminal justice scholarship. Much of this is due to the political context in which criminal justice policy is discussed—a context that hinges on political rhetoric and attempts to justify tough crime policies by referencing the “will of the people.” However, the people referenced are not a homogenous group of “tough on crime” advocates.
