  • A court-appointed representative, usually an attorney, who serves as the guardian of the children in order to act on their behalf in litigation. Used frequently in custody litigation, the guardian ad litem is free to access all information pertinent to the custody litigation and can present the court with information that either party may be interested in withholding.
