- In the social psychology of interpersonal and intergroup power relations, power as control (PAC) theory emerged to explain how relative power motivates individuals to heed or ignore others. Based originally on principles of motivated social cognition, Susan Fiske and colleagues developed the theory through laboratory, survey, and later neuroscientific studies.
