- The Choctaw people are a large nation of Indigenous Peoples whose ancient homelands stretched over much of Mississippi and parts of Alabama and Louisiana. They were related to four other southeastern indigenous nations, collectively called the Five Civilized Tribes by the U.S. government, all but one of whom spoke a variation of the Muskogee language.
