- Federal and state laws have been enacted mandating that certain persons, usually professionals (e.g., health care providers, child care workers, mental health professionals, law enforcement officers, and teachers), report suspected and observed cases of child abuse and neglect to appropriate Child Protective Services (CPS) and law enforcement agencies.
