- Stimulants (also called “uppers”) are a class of drugs that stimulate the brain and central nervous system. Stimulants induce alertness, elevated mood, wakefulness, increased speech and motor activity, and decreased appetite, while causing increases in blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration.
