  • The pressure exerted in a fluid that depends on the depth or vertical head of the fluid and its density. It is important in understanding the flow of water from (1) artesian springs and wells, and other aspects of groundwater movement; (2) soil piping systems and (3) some englacial and subglacial meltwater streams.
