Emancipation Proclamation
Definición
- The Emancipation Proclamation declared that all slaves who lived in states that had seceded from the Union were free, as of January 1, 1863. The Proclamation had no direct effect on the institution of slavery in the border states, leading many to argue that it freed slaves only where the United States lacked jurisdiction.
