Definición
- Synthetic biology is at the forefront of what the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has termed “converging technologies,” as it borrows techniques and methodologies from a variety of disciplines, including from genetics, molecular biology, information technology, and nanotechnology. Synthetic biology harnesses these fields in pursuit of the design and development of biological systems, frequently of high complexity, which do not occur in nature; the technology offers wide application in fields as diverse as energy, medicine, and materials engineering.
