- Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890–1969) served as president of the United States from 1953–1961. During his tenure, Congress enacted three programs that dramatically impacted the lives of many Native Americans: termination, relocation, and the transfer of federal law enforcement jurisdiction over reservation areas to the states (Public Law 280).
