- NASOPHARYNGEAL CARCINOMA (NPC) is a rare tumor arising from the epithelium that lines the nosopharynx, first described this disease in 1921. Nasopharygeal carcinoma makes up roughly 1 percent to 5 percent of all childhood cancers and less than 30 percent of those cancers specifically affecting the nasopharyx.
