- The knee is a major weight-bearing synovial-hinged– type joint located below the femur (thigh bone) and above the tibia (shin bone) and fibula in the leg. It is crucial to understand the anatomy of the knee including the major muscles, ligaments, cartilages, bones, nerves, and blood vessels that surround and encapsulate the knee joint.
