- Definition‘Calling the cops’ or calls for service are calls to the police by the public using an emergency call system, usually a (toll-free) three-digit number. In the UK this emergency call system operates nationwide, and is designed to handle emergency medical and ambulance, fire and police calls, with the majority of callers asking for police services.
