- COMIC RELIEF IS a United Kingdom-based charity that aims to end poverty and social injustice at home and in some of the poorest areas in the world. It was launched in 1985 from a refugee camp in Sudan in response to the African famine. [Source: Encyclopedia of World Poverty; Comic Relief]
