Définition
- The five countries that make up what is commonly referred to as Central Asia are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, each of which attained independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991. Sunni Islam, the more conservative sect of the Islamic religion and the one that comprises some 83 percent of the Muslim world, is the dominant religion, introduced by the Arabs in the seventh century.
