Francesco Guicciardini
Définition
- Francesco Guicciardini, most famous for his historical writings, is nevertheless an important theoretical progenitor of modern representative democracy. A younger, but much wealthier and more prominent contemporary of Niccolò Machiavelli's, Guicciardini served over a long political career in roles as diverse as ambassador for the Florentine republic and administrator for Medici princes and popes.
