- John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, pioneers of Attachment Theory, have set forth several criteria that need to be met in order for a relationship to be considered an attachment relationship. Attachment relationships in childhood have been described as enduring, emotional bonds that a child forms with a particular caregiver, typically a parent.
