dog-sniffing searches

Définition

  • In the vast majority of cases, courts have held that the use of a trained dog to sniff for illegal drugs is not a “search” under the Fourth Amendment. Accordingly, police officers normally may employ a drug-detection dog without first establishing probable cause or obtaining a warrant.
