Définition

  • In the United States, the Federal Food and Drug Administration (hereafter referred to as FDA or the agency) was established in 1906 and, according to its mission statement, it “is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation's food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.” With respect to food, FDA safeguards the nation's food supply by making sure that all ingredients used in foods are safe and free of contaminants. The agency must approve food additives before they are used in foods, and it monitors the safety of dietary supplements as well as infant formula.
