white flight

Définition

  • White flight is the term used to describe the process of migration of white, largely native-born Americans of European descent, from urban cores to surrounding suburban areas and the subsequent concentration of ethnic minorities within inner cities, particularly in the post–World War II era. Though this phenomenon occurred nationwide, its effects were most significant in the “rust belt” areas of the country, where industrial cities saw their populations fall sometimes up to 50 percent in the second half of the 20th century.
